Filipino Bible Church started out as a Bible Study group in its early years.
The group was led by Dr. & Mrs. Robert Fu and the studies were usually held
in their home. In the summer of 1993, Joel and Beth Reyes were invited to
Anchorage for a week to lead a church camp that the Bible Study was having at
LaVerne Griffin Youth Camp. During that week, Joel Reyes also led some Bible
Studies. In December 1993, the church officially called Joel Reyes
to be their full-time Pastor. In March, 1994, the church held its first
service at Anchorage Bible Fellowship on Government Hill. That summer, the
Filipino Bible Church moved its meeting place to First Church of the Nazarene
on 13th & E Street. God was very gracious and the church grew, so much so
that we could no longer fit in the basement of the Nazarene church.
God opened up an opportunity for us to move into our current facility in 1996.
At that time, the building was called “Multi-Ethnic Christian Center”
because we had purchased the building in partnership with two other ethnic
churches – Korean and Spanish congregations. In God’s providence, Filipino
Bible Church was able to purchase the building as a sole owner within 3 years
and hence the church is mortgage-free.
The church started as a small group of 20 - 30 people. Today, the average
Sunday attendance is over 200. Friday night Bible Study attendance averages
75. Some of the ministries Filipino Bible Church provides are: Children’s
Ministry, Fellowship ministry, Worship Team, Choir, Women’s Fellowship,
Sunday School for all ages, Friday Night Bible Study for all ages, Tagalog Bible
Class, Movement Ministry, Missions Opportunities all over the world, including
Japan and Russia, Evangelism Explosion Classes in English and Tagalog, and
Prayer ministry. We offer two Sunday morning services – one at 9:15 AM and
our main worship time at 10:30 AM. We have a pot-luck fellowship on every
last Sunday of the month.
Filipino Bible Church started a church in Kodiak Alaska called Filipino
Bible Church, Kodiak. We were able to bring a pastor from the Philippines to
lead the congregation there. The church in Kodiak is now a self-supporting
congregation with a membership of over 80.
We pray that God will continue to use Filipino Bible Church to touch many more
lives in Anchorage and other areas of Alaska.
